We spent the morning by the sea along with the rest of the Bank Holiday population. And just like the two mornings before, we walked to the end of our road, embraced the expanse of sea we could see from the cliff top and lazily made our way down the zigzag. Crisscrossing lizards on our way. Merlin, nose in a bush that a slivery tail had mysteriously vanished into.
We decided to walk further today to push on beyond the crowds and that uptight lady who didn’t like dogs, planted in the same spot we met her on the beach yesterday. Not today, lady, not today. Just simply not the vibes we are looking for. Past the screaming kids on lilos and the multi-coloured tents, umbrellas and wind breakers we weathered over the weekend. Not today yellies.
Not today, I looked up at the blue sky without a cloud in sight. And the strong wingspan of a swan caught my ears and eyes as she flew over us. A magical whirring sound that I could feel vibrate in me.
This day could not get better.
A swim in the sea, the ripples on the water lapping through me like sound waves and walking out as the ocean withdrew. The same water that I carry in my body each and every day. Merlin looks to me, “play with the ball" time. Then we meditated, together. I love how he plonks his backside to my backside. The small weight of him pushed up against me. His presence and calmness just like Milo before him. This is total bliss. And after a while I massage his back, drawing on the stillness and tranquility of the day into the therapy. Heaven.
We’d been waiting for just this very day. I said to my friend a week ago. I’ll swim, really swim when I see a swan paddling past. And so it was. Except she flew.
Not every day is like this but somehow sharing this day and recognising the power within it. Feels like I can take it forward for a little while at least. Moving and dancing and flowing at the pace that this morning has eased its way into me. I wish this for you all.
Keep moving forward says Merlin and days like this do come along.
